My soul walked out unannounced

"My soul walked out unannounced
Where shall I lay my head today?
My heart stepped out and took a walk
Maybe sit down and pray?
While about this curious saunter
A man looked in with a smile
A questioning nod a bow of head
He asked "can I stay a while?"
With soul out there and heart astray
My safety assured that day

He took my hand no leap of heart
For heart and soul not near
He looked into my hollow eyes
With his so full of wonder
No stir of soul, for soul too gone
My mind no need to ponder
The touch of hand so warm and strong
Lingered for a while
Eyes entrenched with perfect poise
With just that hint of smile

My soul walked out unannounced
Where shall I lay my head today?
My heart stepped out and took a walk
Maybe sit down and pray?
And rest my soul went seeking for
And heart wants fill this day
Heart heard a strong yet silent call
And stopped to take an ear
The rest that soul just could not find
Wondering about in fear

Shh! said heart, be still my soul!
I hear a call of passion
Not true said soul for passion died
We buried her succession
The man let gently loose of hands
Stood up and left her glance
The safety net of no heart and soul
Felt suddenly periled by chance
Slowly he turned and walked away
Silence followed sway

My soul walked out unannounced
Where shall I lay my head today?
My heart stepped out and took a walk
Maybe sit down and pray?
When heart heard passion call her name
Took soul firm by the hand
Come soul you follow me this day
Walk back with me and do not stand
Passion's call our freedom here
Not hiding out in fear

So heart and soul came back that day
To reunite with passion
Who would think a gesture small
Could return love in such a fashion?"
